Mustang Trekking - 17 Days

Mustang is one of the district of Nepal which is a part of Dhawalagiri Zone of northern Nepal. The Mustang district straddles the Himalayas and extends northward onto the Tibetan plateau.Mustang is one of Nepal’s most mysterious and least known kingdoms.Mustang is one of the remotest areas in Nepal and second in terms of the sparsity of population.It is an ancient forbidden kingdom, bordered by the Tibetan plateau and sheltered by some of the world’s tallest peaks.The name Mustang is derived from the Tibetan word meaning “Plain of Aspiration”.
You will find two mustang one is upper Mustang and another is a lower Mustang. Lower Mustang include the Annapurna Circuit and many people trek there and well known as Annapurna Base Camp. Upper Mustang was restricted area and recently only the government give permission to travel around upper Mustang.

Upper Mustang

Upper Mustang was only opened to foreigners and is the popular area for trekking and can be visited a year ago.The upper Mustang comprise the northern two-thirds of Mustang District of Dhawalagiri Zone. The climate of Upper Mustang has a trans-Himalayan climate which is cool.
The upper Mustang is rich in culture, full of the green and dry landscape. During a trek to Upper Mustang, you can have Tibetan food, dresses, lifestyle and faces of the people, the oldest monastery in the world.Mustang trek is not particularly difficult, the highest point reached only 3800 m but conditions at times can be arduous.

Facts about Mustang

It is lost the kingdom of Tibet. It is residing in the rain shadow of Dhaulagiri and filled with biodiversity region ie. entire hillside swiped with pink and red colored rhododendron forests.The cultural trails in the region take into homes of Gurungs in the lowland.Upper Mustang trek offers a chance to explore thousand years of the old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties. The attraction of Mustang region is the Tiji Festival.

Itinerary


Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu. Welcome dinner. Overnight at hotel. Trek Preparation

Day 2 Cultural tour, Trek Preparation, Drive to Pokhara

Day 3 Fly to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni (3 hrs walk).

Day 4 Trek to Chele (Enter into the restricted upper Mustang area) (7 hrs walk).

Day 5 Trek to Syangboche (5-6 hrs).

Day 6 Trek to Ghami walk (5 hrs).

Day 7 Trek to Tsarnag (4 hrs).

Day 8 Trek to Lo Manthang (4-5 hrs).

Day 9 Explore day at Lo Manthang

Day 10 Trek to Dhakmar (7-8 hrs).

Day 11 Trek to Syanboche

Day 12 Trek to Chusang (5-6 hrs).

Day 13 Trek to Kagbeni (4 hrs walk).

Day 14 Trek to Jomsom

Day 15 Fly to Pokhara after the Upper Mustang

Day 16 Drive to Kathmandu. PM free in Kathmandu

Day 17 Mustang trekking ends. Airport Transportation
